Feline Wellness:
Why Spaying and Neutering
Makes Sense

Did you know that there are important health benefits associated with spaying or neutering your pet in addition to preventing unwanted kittens and puppies? These benefits will help your pet live a longer and healthier life.
Breast cancer is prevalent in dogs and cats, just as it is in humans. In fact, 42% of all tumors in dogs are mammary tumors and of these, 50% are malignant. If your dog or cat is spayed before her first heat the chance of her having tumors is almost nonexistent. Other problems associated with the ovaries and uterus, such as cysts, infections and cancer are also totally eliminated by spaying.
Neutering your male pet also has distinct health advantages. The incidence of testicular cancer in dogs is 10 times as great as in man. Enlarged prostate glands, tumors and hernias are common in non-neutered males. In addition, neutering will decrease aggressive behavior, roaming and marking territory with urine. Fighting among cats is an especially serious health risk, not only because of the infections associated with bite wounds, but also because Feline Leukemia Virus and other infectious diseases can be spread via bites and scratches.
So do your pet a favor and have him neutered or her spayed. The surgery is safe and recovery is usually very rapid.
